NCTS Advanced Course in Algebraic Geometry

During January, every Thursday afternoon 13:00-15:00
January  8, 15 & 29, 2004 (No lectures on Jan. 22, 2004 due to the Chinese New Year).

During February and March, every Monday morning 10:00-12:00
February  2, 9, 16 & 23, 2004
March 1, 8 & 15, 2004 (perhaps a few more).

At the end of March there will be a conference in algebraic geometry in National Taiwan University.

Outline of program:

Professor Alessio Corti from University of Cambridge will visit National Center for Theoretical Science and National Taiwan University from January to March 2004 for three months. Professor Corti is an expert in birational geometry and during his visiting he will offer a course in current trend of algebraic geometry.

The course will contain the following topics:

1. Flips, especially on Shokurov's recent approach to 4-fold flips.
2. Birational theory of Mori fiber spaces, especially conic bundles and del Pezzo fibrations.
3. Mirror symmetry of Fano 3-folds (recent joint work with V. Golyshev from Moscow).
