Topical Programs in Mathematics

Call for Pre-proposals

The National Science Council funded Center for Theoretical Sciences, sited at the National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, has commenced business on 1st, August, 1997. A prime mission for the Mathematics Division is to sponsor Topical Programs focusing on topic that are current and important, or those deemed to have the potential to be so in the near future, and will have a high impact on the local research community. The duration of each program will be two to six months.

This announcement is a call for pre-proposal for Topical Programs.

GUIDELINE FOR PROPOSAL. Make your Pre-proposal specific and concise; one or two typed pages will be sufficient. Try to convey a reasonable idea of the importance and possible impact of Program to the Executive Committee, who will screen the pre-proposals. In order to assure that a Topical Program, once launched, will have the best chances to succeed, the Executive Committee will allocate resources to assist Organizers of selected pro-proposals to prepare detailed full proposals. Preparatory work may include the running of schools preceding a program.

The pre-proposal should list:

1. The main subject(s) for the Topical Program; be specific if the subject is a very large one such as "Dynamical Systems".
2. A concise description of why the Program is important, interesting and relevant.
3. Name(s) of Principal participants and a rough estimate of the number of the participants, including students and researchers, from Taiwan.

DEADLINE:

Please send proposals before December15 of every year , to Ms. Chia-Yu Twu, National Center for Theoretical Sciences, National Tsing Hua University. The Executive Committee will consult with the Advisory Committee on the final choices of Topical Programs. The decision will be announced shortly after January 15 of every year.
