Topic: Cell signalling via G-protein coupled receptors |

Abstract: Molecules that are too large to cross the cell membrane induce responses within the target cells through binding with specific receptors on the cell surface. G-protein-coupled receptors are a superfamily of receptors that typically interact with a membrane protein called G-protein to initiate responses. The binding process appears to be more complicated than what was previous believed. Mathematical models are constructed to study the complications arisen in the recent experimental observations, namely the multiple receptor conformations and compartmentalisation of signalling molecules. These models are directed at a better understanding of the factors that determine the efficacy and potency of a drug.
