|
Time:
|
Every Friday
afternoon of July 1 - August 26, 2005.
|
|
Location: |
Lecture Room B of
NCTS, 4th Floor, 3rd General Building,
|
|
Goal: |
Lie algebras appear
in most areas of pure mathematics, and many researchers seem to want
to know something about it. This is a very elementary introduction to the
structure theory of complex and real semisimple Lie algebras, followed by
exploration of some combinatorial-related research topics. The approach is
informal (example-oriented and proof-free), and students are encouraged to
give presentations. |

Prerequisite: |
Undergraduate linear algebra and abstract algebra.
